This One Pulled Me Out Of My Romantasy Slump

Release Date: 06/02/26

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 Stars

🌶️🌶️ 2/5 Spice

I Was Addicted Immediately:

Thank you, Caty Rogan for pulling me out of my romantasy slump and reminding me why I love this genre. This filled the gaping voids left from the Fourth Wing and Throne of Glass series' that have wanted to be filled, without feeling like empty copies of either.

What's It About?

Ryot Kidnaps Leina instead of killing her, taking her to his order to train as an Alton. But, after a goddess "kisses" Leina with extra powers, she becomes a target for an enemy god and his followers. Leina's inner and outer worlds grow -- with war, magic, gods, and this world's history -- creating a fast-paced, layered, high-stakes story.

And yes, there are dragons. But, this doesn't feel like another dragon-rider clone. Although there are familiar elements, the storyline remains fresh.

My Thoughts:

Leina is one of the strongest and most refreshing FMC I've read in a while. She's not invincible. And she struggles, adapts, and grows throughout the story. Her powers come with consequences, keeping the stakes high and the story layered.

Ryot is also basically the perfect 'Shadow-Daddy'. Brooding? Absolutely. But he's also perfectly loyal, creating some intense slow-burn tension.

The plot was addictive, the pacing was excellent, and the enemies were well thought out and defined. Even the side characters felt memorable, which made for a fun ride.

Final Thoughts - Kissed by the Gods:

This reminded me why I love the fantasy and romantasy genres. It was fun, addictive, emotional, hard to put down, and now it's impossible to wait for book two.

Thank you to NetGalley and Requited for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
