Ratings:

Empire of Flame and Thorns (Flame and Thorns #1) - 4.5 stars

Throne of Ice and Blood (Flame and Thorns #2) - 5 stars

Court of Lies and Deceit (Flame and Thorns #3) - 4 stars

The Series You've Never Heard Of & Why You Want To Read It (Trust Me!)

  • Book One - Enemies to ENEMIES to Lovers? trope. The tension had me sending everything to voicemail.

  • Book Two - Even Better than Book One -- Fifty Sades of Fae.

  • Book Three - Still good. I couldn't put it down. And that ending. I'm going straight to book Four.

The Series (no spoilers):

Selena throws a drink on Draven, her mortal enemy, in an attempt to escape his capture while she's spying for the Fae resistance. Later, she enters the "Atonement Trials" to win her freedom -- and guess who is there overseeing the trials? Book One deals with Draven (and the other Dragon Shifters) and Selena (and the Fae). Throughout the trials, Selena comes to terms with her magic, deals with political intrigue, and of course Draven (a dragon shifter).

Book Two continues the political intrigue between the fae and the dragon shifters.

Book Three brings a new fae court into the mix - the Unseelie Fae.

What I Loved:

  • Although I couldn't put Empire of Flame and Thorns (book one) down, Throne of Ice and Blood (book two) is my favorite. The pacing is tight, the tension is nearly perfect, the romance pays off and there's action. This is a near perfect romantasy.

  • The chemistry is amazing in these books, with an extremely high spice level.

Where The World Dips:

  • A Court of Lies and Deceit (book three) dips slightly -- not a crash, it's still an addictive read, just a dip.

  • The plot feels slightly repetitive inside book three's Unseelie Court, very reminiscent of book one and not quite as interesting. But there are interesting character moments, especially near the end. The third book feels like it's a staging area for book four.

Would I Recommend This Series?

Absolutely. -- If you like spicy fantasy, this is a series for you.

  • If you liked A Court of Throne and Roses, Throne of Glass, Fourth Wing, this series will fill the romantic fantasy void.
