⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Stars
This book's existence could be summed up as 'The Bear and the Nightingale' merged with 'Swordheart's potential -- and who doesn't want a ticket to that ride?
What's Reap and Sow About?
This story pulled me in with major 'Bear and the Nightingale' vibes. With its atmospheric writing and certain plot points, Reap and Sow's mood was lighter than 'Bear'. The characters' relationship and journey were reminiscent of 'Swordheart' at times. Eda makes a bargain with a demon to save her brothers, which starts an adventure filled with ancient magic, alternate worlds, dangerous alliances, and, of course, a slow-burn romance. But while Eda and the demon's relationship evolves, they must face the threat of the demon's brother and an alliance he formed with the bishop.
What results is a world that is perfectly gray and foreboding, a female main character who is flawed and alienated yet very likable, a male main character who is a demon with vulnerable human characteristics, an intriguing slow-burn relationship, and high-stakes plot points that keep the pacing moving along.
What Worked:
The Atmosphere
This book absolutely nails the atmosphere. There's a darkness in the writing that adds an eerie texture to the story. The dark tone evokes images of 'The Bear and the Nightingale', while Eda's relationship with the demon and some side characters remind me of what I was expecting from 'Swordheart'.
The Characters
Eda is easy to root for; she is perfectly flawed. The demon love interest is layered enough to avoid being cliche. The villains are menacing and thought out. The conflict keeps the tension high stakes.
What Didn't Work:
Honestly, very little didn't work here. I will say that the banter between Eda and her demon is not the normal romantasy banter. That said, maybe that isn't necessarily a bad thing. When you read this book, let me know what you think in the comments. I'm curious.

🫖 Reap and Sow:
While some of the vibes and elements are familiar, the story still feels completely unique. Honestly? This was the adventure I was hoping to get from Swordheart. Dark, fun, and romantic -- this was a five-star read for me.
